8 Must-Have Flavorful Spices Every Meal Prepper Should Have

Anyone who cooks or meal preps knows just how far a good spice or flavor can take a meal; a hint of spice or a dash of smoky BBQ can take even the most basic dinner entrees to the next level. After all, there’s nothing worse than a dry, flavorless meal – especially when you’re trying to eat healthily! To help combat this (and prevent anyone from having to suffer through tasteless meal prep dinners), we’ve put together a list of our favorite, most flavorful spices from the Eat Clean inventory. Trust us, you’ll want to invest in at least a few of these!

Maple BBQ

Pairs well with: meat, veggies, or in delicious homemade dips.

This spice makes THE WHOLE house smell amazing when cooking with it. Smoky flavor profiles go a long way in cooking, especially for barbecue lovers. Our Maple BBQ spice is a seriously mouthwatering seasoning that hits all the right notes and that, unlike most sauces or mixes, has sweet, smoky flavors and zero honey (which means it’s totally vegan-friendly). To keep the caramelized, sweet flavor, we added maple instead. It has a light, smoky flavor that’s bursting with black pepper, garlic, and a touch of ancho chili that complements the sweetness of the maple perfectly. And the best part? Zero grams of sugar!

Zesty Lemon Pepper

Pairs well with: chicken, meat, and fish.

Vibrant, fresh, and packed with citrus fruits, our Zesty Lemon Pepper seasoning is a delicious blend of zesty lemon, cool garlic, and black pepper. This seasoning really packs a punch with an abundance of fresh, full flavors, and works perfectly on an oven-roasted chicken or a lightly pan-seared fish – though one of our favorite things about this spice is its versatility! It can be used on pretty much any lunch or dinner dish in your inventory.

Jamrock Jerk

Pairs well with: grilled or baked chicken, seafood, and veggies.

Our Jamrock Jerk spice mix is a savory blend of heavy, strong flavors that will create the perfect rub for whatever you’re planning to throw on the grill tonight. This is a bold seasoning, with notes of clove, nutmeg, and allspice that complement l hints of cinnamon, thyme, and black pepper.

Pro-tip: this is a great spice to use on what would usually be less flavorful protein, like chicken; we also recommend grilling or baking with it, rather than simmering it in a crock pot or Instant Pot.

Southwest Garlic Chipotle

Pairs well with: meat, seafood, veggies, or in homemade dips.

Infused with Spanish and Aztec flavors, our Southwest Garlic Chipotle seasoning mix is a great way to spice up your regular meal plan dishes. It’s earthy, smokey, and packed with plenty of garlic, black pepper, New Mexican chili powder, ancho chili powder, mustard seed, oregano, and thyme. And even though it’s bold, the flavors are still balanced enough to pack a punch without overwhelming the taste buds.

For a yummy one-pan dinner that you can prep ahead of time, choose some veggies and a protein, toss them together, and coat with a generous amount of Southwest Garlic Chipotle seasoning plus plenty of fresh garlic.

Kung Pao

Pairs well with: grilled or sauteed meat, veggies, and chicken.

Our Kung Pao spice is the perfect addition to any Asian-inspired or Asian fusion dish! It hits all the right flavor notes with traditional seasonings like toasted sesame seeds, tangy orange peel, and a dash of bright coriander. Citrus-infused and just a bit spicy, this is a delicious way to make a quick weeknight noodle dish really stand out.

Thai Yellow Curry

Pairs well with: chicken, meat, seafood, and veggies.

We love curry; but as anyone who loves it knows, the worst part about making it is all of the different spices you have to buy. That’s exactly why we created our Thai Yellow Curry seasoning: it has everything you need to make the perfect yellow curry in one mix. It’s a delicious blend of traditional turmeric, mustard seed, and cumin paired with cardamom, cloves, and fenugreek seed to spice things up a little. It’s savory, sweet, and spicy all at the same time; just the way yellow curry should be.

Homestyle Ranch

It combines the classic flavor profile of Ranch with a healthy twist (and minus the mayo, eggs, and dairy), and makes for a great addition to pretty much every meal prep dish you can think of.

We love using it as a marinade on baked chicken, seafood, or green beans; once it marinates for a while, you can whip up a quick one-pan dish that provides leftovers for the rest of the week.

Taco Party

Pairs well with: fajitas, tacos, or ground meats and poultry.

It’s no secret that we love our Mexican food here in Southern California! Our Taco Party spice mix is the perfect addition to your next Mexican-inspired extravaganza. Bursting with hints of cumin, paprika, garlic, and black pepper, along with a bit of heat from the dried chiles, this is a just-spicy-enough (think medium, not hot) seasoning that will take your fajitas, tacos, or enchiladas to the next level.

We like to say it’s a standard taco seasoning that packs a Tex-Mex punch; the cumin and oregano notes balance out the spiciness and transform it into a seriously flavorful (and versatile) mix.
